An
enterprise about suffering
SETTING IN MOTION A COLLECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF SUFFERING
Setting in motion a collective management of suffering is a project that consists in starting up an organized mastery over the phenomenon of suffering by taking part in certain concrete practical actions that stop, reduce, or prevent occurrences of excessive suffering, and by formally bringing those actions to lie within the framework of algonomy. In other words, this initiative sets out to identify actual or potential cases of unacceptable pain and to take action upon those cases, so as to create and carry out a strategy that aims at providing a control of pain in the world.
According to the proposition put forward on the site of Algosphere, algonomy is the work area concerned with suffering. As the first practical action framework that has the capacity for holding in principle everything that has to do with suffering, algonomy might represent an indispensable novelty for organizing within a global strategic plan the one-off or structural interventions which are part of a collective effort to manage that phenomenon. The present project aims at starting, factually, a systematic control over suffering. If the project does not reach its aim, it will allow at least, hopefully, to better understand human capability for acting on that matter.
Setting in motion a collective management of suffering is an initiative of Robert Daoust, a social entrepreneur who is operating Algosphere, an enterprise that was registered in Quebec in 2004 and that carries out projects about suffering.
